New wafer and shield techniques

Sample directional texture

Project Details

Having learned how to do the crackle texture in the first workshop, you will now learn how to create predictable effects with powder. These effects include veining, subtle shading, patches of colour, and working with colour to support your unique colour blends.

By varying the construction techniques and firing schedules you will learn how to create new and controllable textures. Specifically, the two new textures you will learn are: pebble patterns and  controlled directional textures. Bob has developed both of these textures as an extension of the crackle technique learned in the initial workshop.

You will practise the new techniques by making wall-mounted shields and cave art plaques. The intent is that participants will learn the skills to express their artistic vision with powders.
